12.1 Candidates will be able to develop an online facilitation plan based on best practices of online learning and teaching that demonstrates their ability to teach in the online environment.
To meet key concept 12, I created an online facilitation plan in ET 631, Transformative Online Teaching. This online course was designed by utilizing the R2D2 model adopted by Bonk and Zhang (2006). In this pedagogical model, students read and view, reflect, display, and do. By utilizing this model, instructors are able to build teacher presence by clearly organizing learning goals and providing students with a structured model for learning. In the reflecting, displaying, and doing tasks, students are able to think about the content they've read and viewed resources on. In addition, students are provided with collaborative opportunities to reflect on their learning. This helps to build social and cognitive presence. My online facilitation plan incorporates the R2D2 model to build teacher, social, and cognitive presence. As an online educator it is important to build an online community where students learn from one another in various ways. My online facilitation plan is for education professionals on the topic of building and engaging with a Personal Learning Network (PLN).
